TR Stabilisation were engaged by Galliford Try aviation at early tender stage to assist with alternative solutions with respect to ground improvement to overall construction build-ups and minimise large scale disposal off site based on the original design apron extension construction for the proposed UPS aeroplane apron extension.

TR Stabilisation worked closely with Manchester Airport Group (MAG), Designers and geotechnical consultants AECOM Aviation to develop a ground improvement proposal to reduce the overall construction from 1.2m to just 600mm, reduce the DLC construction layer and reducing disposals off site, this also improved the overall contract program for the scheme.

The final performance specification agreed with the designers was based on a modulus of sub-grade reaction of 120kN/m2/mm, TR Stabilisation carried out laboratory design bench trails, provided a comprehensive design compliance report, incorporating a verification test and inspection plan compliant with AECOM Aviation specification. Works were carried out late 2019, on completion of the works TR Stabilisation provided a full verification report to demonstrate that the soils stabilisation works was compliant with the specification for the foundation proposal.
